  • DJ Craze – New Slaves Routine

    In my opinion, far too many turntablists seem to be intent on pursuing technicality and speed at the expense of musicality these days. Good to see someone like Craze embracing the advancement in technology, whilst putting together a truly musical, tight routine like this.

    Every break was somebodies Best Kept Secret at one time – This on-going mix (part 2 and 3 coming soon, 4 later etc) came about as a result of two ageing B-boys training in the lab and sharing beats…. not claiming anything – there’s classics (new and old), rarities and new music on here – big shout to the DJs who broke many of these beats onto the Hip Hop landscape first, these are our heroes…..we are just sharing in the fun of the dig and hopefully providing the soundtrack for a training session or two besides our own….big thanks to Timber, Dolby D, Kilo and Mouse for the drops….

    A turntable routine *whilst* rapping over the top simultaneously?  That’ll be Edan then…

    PS The track in the video might well be familiar to anyone that heard my Christmas Mix last year… Almost time again… *shudder*…

  • Copycat – Pause Tape 1 [Mixtape]

    =========================================================
    New Download Link: copycatbeats.bandcamp.com/

    It’s the ten year anniversary of the Pause Tape 1 [Mixtape]

    This mix was kinda done as a tribute to cut & paste dj tracks, mainly from people like Too Tuff from Philly’s Tuff Crew who was a major influence on a lot of people including me.

    It was also a throwback to the pause button edit mixtapes that most of us started our journey into sampling with.

    It’s a rough & gritty ride through battle breaks, dusty samples & heavy cutting.

    There are way too many tracks & samples to list. All I can remember is a hugh pile of records & a busted Vestax PMC 06 battle mixer at the end of doing this mix.

    Part 2 – Good Old Days

    And here’s a vid of Skratch Bastid & The Gaff cutting up 4 Freda Payne 45s to recreate JVC FORCE’s “Strong Island” beat. Taken from a practice session for their “Soul Sisters, Stand Up!” live show & recorded mix.
